THOUGHTS ON E-LEARNING
Hi and Assalamulaikum :)
So, as we all know, all the students are learning via online right now.
So, of course there's gonna be some pros and cons, even for me as an undergrad student.
And tbh, at the first thought of e-learning, I can't even see my future for this semester. Lolz!
So, here's some pros and cons of e-learning.. (please bear with all my cons!)
Cons:
1. Internet connection
Eventhough the government had gave free 1GB internet per day (which we really appreciate!), but tbh, it isn't enough to watch a video lecture which is like 1 hour long for each subject per day.
And we have like 2/3 lectures per day, so the internet connection is a big problem here..
Even for school students as well..
We need to take into account students who have siblings and do not have enough gadgets at home to be shared around.
Some people have only 1/2 phones with internet connection at home, but they have like 4/5 siblings, so we need to understand this. Teachers should understand this as well and do not put the deadline of an assignment according to the school timetable (1 hour class). This will lead to stress and depression towards the student.
Besides learning, the university student will be facing an online final exam as well. This is very dangerous and hard for students with poor internet connection.
How will they finish their exam in 3 hours if the loading of the each question paper took more than 5 minutes. (been there, done that)
Its not reasonable at all.
This will not only cause the student's mark for final exam but it will also effect her/his cgpa as well.
This will lead to problems with their scholarship company and internship programs.
Especially for final year student, this is their last semester and of course they're targeting to get a Dean's List for their final semester.
This may disrupt their result as well.
2. Online examination
Can we imagine how an online final exam will be done?
I've just gotten my date for final exam which will be conducted via online..
And tbh, I freaked out a lot. I kept on thinking how will I study for the exam, how am I suppose to score for this exam?
Like the normal examination is already hard as it is, and now they're doing an online final examination.
It'll be even harder for people with small children in their house.
How can they have peace and quiet to study when their lil siblings keep on crying everyday..
How will they be peaceful to answer the final exam with the chaotic background? Right?
And we also need to touch on cheating issue.
There's always a chance of truancy in online examination,
we can always google the question and tada.. the answers are all there..
Not everyone is capable to be honest 100%, even during the face to face examination, there's still students who brought in cheat sheets and soo on, so...
And how am I supposed to send my calculations to my lecturer?
Snap, scan and send?
What if it became blur and my professor can't read some of my numbers clearly because I took the picture a few minutes before the times up..
Who can we call to make sure the lecturers can read our calculations, our essays..
3. Not enough resources
As we all know, we were at a rush when we came back to our house.
Even for me, I came back on weekend with only a small luggage and a laptop bag. That's all.
I didn't expect to sit at home for 2 months, I was thinking of staying for the weekend and shoot back to my university.
So, all of my lecture notes, books and lab reports were all at my room in university.
So, how am I supposed to study properly?
And also, for people like me, we need to print our study materials.
We are not the type of people who can read through our laptop and memorize everything.
We can't.
I always need a highlighter, multiple coloured pens and also a sticky notes for short notes.
This is how I study.
But right now, because of MCO, the print shop is closed and I can't print my notes..
So, how am I supposed to study.
Well, you might say, "If you really wanna study, you'll find a way"
I did try and read it online, make short notes as usual. But I can't draw every picture there is on my lecture notes..
So, again its hard for me to study.
4. No thorough class planner
IDK bout other uni, but my uni seems like they did not think it through about how e-learning should be conducted.
I still don't know how my grades are gonna be measured.
Is it gonna be 100% continuous exam, 40-60?
Like there's no clear explanation on how this e-learning is gonna be conducted.
Yes, I understand that the lecturers are still braining this thing, I just hope they'll give us a clear briefing afterwards before our class starts.
5. Literally self-learn
Although we've been doing it even before MCO, but at least we went to class to listen.
Eventhough we don't understand a single thing during the 1 hour lecture, but we get the snippets of it.
And certain times, we fully understand it.
But during e-learning, it is a full self learning.
How am I supposed to understand complex calculation by myself. Lolz...
Good luck to all!
Pros:
1. More time with family
So, probably this is the first time we're having a full Ramadan with our whole family since I went to boarding school.
So, it feels great to be with them all.
We even started to read Quran everyday after zohor as a bonding session and also for us to improve our Quran reading as well.
So, this is a great way to bond between the family member.
Appreciate it, and be involved!
You may not get this opportunity in the future!
So, I think that's all I could think of..
Just hope Covid-19 will end soon so we can get back to our normal life again!
Cause I miss it!
